Anti-GJE1 antibodies are used in the immunodetection of the protein gap junction protein epsilon 1. In humans, the canonical protein has a reported length of 205 amino acid residues and a mass of 23.8 kDa. Its subcellular localization is in the cell membrane. A member of the Connexin protein family, GJE1 is known to mediate calcium-independent ATP release, suggesting activity as a hemichannel. Synonyms for this target antigen include connexin-23, gap junction protein, epsilon 1, 23kDa, and putative gap junction epsilon-1 protein. GJE1 gene orthologs have been reported in the mouse, rat and bovine species. Some GJE1 antibodies may have been used in research and have associated citations. Western Blot is a widely used application for these antibodies. In addition, ELISA is also a common application.
