The HSV epitope tag is a short, 11-residue peptide sequence (QPELAPEDPED) derived from the envelope glycoprotein D of the herpes simplex virus. Its short length makes it unlikely to interfere with protein activity or cellular localization. Antibodies targeting the HSV epitope may be a useful tool in investigating HSV-tagged proteins.
