The FRAPPA scan head is Andor’s latest innovation in laser microscopy. It is named after the acronyms of the techniques it supports: Fluorescence Recovery After Photo-bleaching (FRAP) and Photo-Activation (PA). It was voted number one in the top ten new devices in 2007 by Photonics Online, and it is easy to see why. Operating in either bypass (imaging) or active frap mode, FRAPPA is a ‘turn-key’ upgrade for Andor Revolution imaging systems and can be adapted to others. The associated Multi-Port Unit (MPU) for Andor's ALC, laser combiner, enables millisecond switching of lasers to one of three fiber outputs. This functionality enables the configuration of multi-modal microscopy systems for FRAPPA, Spinning Disk Confocal and TIRFM.
