Less Is Better Our Multiple-Deletion Strain™ 42 (MDS™ 42) is the only competent cells commercially available with a completely sequenced and analyzed genome. Along with a completely sequenced genome a series of deletions were performed to remove nonessential genetic elements which has improved the transformation efficiencies and improved protein expression. With 15% of nonessential regions of the genome removed, our MDS™ 42 competent cells contain no Insertion Sequences (IS) elements, phage and prophage elements, recombination regions and endonuclease A, which may cause problems for modern lab applications. By trimming down the E. coli genome and removing these nonessential genes we have also improved the efficiency of the cell’s metabolic processes.
