Kanamycin (Kanamycin A) is an antibiotic compound isolated from the bacterium Streptomyces kanamyceticus. It belongs to the aminoglycoside class of antibiotics and is mainly effective against Gram-negative bacteria. It acts by interfering with protein synthesis through binding to the 30S subunit of the ribosome, resulting in the misreading of the mRNA and incorrect synthesis of the protein. Kanamycin resistance is used as a selectable marker in molecular biology. Kanamycin is often provided in salt form as kanamycin sulfate. Choose the volume, weight, or preparation that best suits your experimental needs.
