Description

The Grip Strength Meter objectively assesses the effect of drugs, toxins, disease, and nerve damage on muscle strength. It is offered in three models, single sensor, dual sensor, and “Dunnett” Style. The single-sensor model measures forelimb grip-strength. The rodent is held by the tail and pulled backwards over the grip-strength meter. The rodent’s natural reaction is to try to grasp anything available to stop this involuntary backwards movement. The rodent grasps the bar and hangs on for a long as it can. The Grip Strength Meter contains high resolution load-cells which measure the peak force applied to them by the rodent trying to hold on. When the pulling force becomes too great, the rodent lets go, and the maximum force applied is logged and displayed on the easy to read, active matrix display. Optional software (see website) is available and allows configuration of experiment details and parameters, as well as data collection. A 220V model is also available.
