Company:

Sigma-Aldrich

Product Name:

Annexin V-FITC Apoptosis Detection Kit

Catalog Number:

APOAF-50TST

The kit contains annexin V, propidium iodide and the required buffer for the detection of apoptotic cells. It is really easy to use. We have used it for analyzing the presence of apoptotic cells such as myoblasts or mesenchymal stem cells after their encapsulation in alginate.

Experimental Design and Results Summary

Application

Flow cytometry

Starting Material

Encapsulated myoblasts

Protocol Overview

It is easy to follow manufacturer recommendations. After collecting the cells, they have to be incubated for 10 minutes with annexin V and propidium iodide dissolve in the buffer provided by the kit. After incubations, cells can be quantified by flow cytometry.

Tips

Needs to be optimized the concentration of the concentrations of both annexin and propidium iodide

Results Summary

Percentage of early apoptic cells can be observed by flow cytometry after staining as annexin positive (FL1 in the figure) and propidium iodide negative (FL3 in the figure)
