Company:

Transnetyx, Inc.

Service Provided:

Mouse genotyping

Transnetyx provides genotyping services for animal tissues and cell lines. We have been using them for genotyping for several years now with mixed success. They are good for well-established lines with standardized genotyping assays, but not good for lines that are either new or now well-characterized.

Experimental Design and Results Summary

Downstream Applications

In vivo experiments with transgenic mice

Timeline

24-72 hour turn-around

Nature of Service

Tissue/cell genotyping

Technical Service

Technical support is readily available over the phone or e-mail

Delivery

Results are posted online within the promised timeframe

Results Summary

Genotyping is performed using a TaqMan platform and results are reported as positive (+) or negative (-).For mouse lines with established TaqMan PCR genotyping assays, the turn around and pricing is quite good.

Summary

The Good

Reliable genotyping results for well-established mouse lines

The Bad

Unreliable for genotyping of mouse lines that aren't well-established

The Bottom Line

If you want quick turn around for genotyping, this is a good company to utilize. I would proceed with caution if you want to establish a genotyping assay with them for new mouse lines, especially if your mouse line has a single base pair mutation or any other subtle genetic variation that would make it more difficult to design a reliable TaqMan PCR assay.
