Product Name:

DP73 Digital Camera

Catalog Number:

DP73

This camera has been used in conjunction with the Olympus BX63 microscope to assess fixed bright field as well as fluorescent images. This camera was selected because it is on the cheaper end of some of Olympus's cameras but can accomplish our microscopy needs with decent resolution and sensitivity.

Experimental Design and Results Summary

Application

Microscopy

Starting Material

Fixed H4IIE rat hepatoma cells treated with fluorescent antibodies

Protocol Overview

This camera is simple to operate. It turns on with the microscope and is connected to the computer through the program CellSens for live viewing.

Tips

Make sure this camera is correct for the application you want. Small details are still difficult for this camera to pick up.

Results Summary

This camera has a 17.3 megapixel resolution which creates very sharp images, even at 100X. The best results using this camera are when we use bright field or fluorescent imaging with antibodies. Some small details we have attempted to pick up using a 100X objective (such as mitochondrial/ER interactions) are still too much for this camera.

Features Summary

Great imaging tool that picks up fluorescent images well when stained or using antibodies. Picks up a variety of signal strengths and colors.

Summary

The Good

Cheaper than some of the other camera models out there

The Bad

Some camera models are better and have way better fluorescent resolution.

The Bottom Line

This camera works for our application of quantifying fluorescent and bright field images. The variety of colors this camera can pick up make images very easy to distinguish.
