Our lab has developed different mouse models to study the efficacy of vaccines against HIV, as mice do not get infected by HIV. One of our models is transgenic for human host factors that allows acute HIV infection in the mice. We are currently testing vaccine candidates in these mice, and we perform detailed FACS analyses looking at CD4 and CD8 T cell responses in peripheral blood and spleen, and use panels of antibodies covering for different T cell markers and different cytokines.
