Company:

Invitrogen/Life Technologies/Thermo

Product Name:

anti-GPX1 antibody (anti-glutathione peroxidase 1)

Catalog Number:

PA5-26323

We wanted to detect glutathione peroxidase 1 (GPX1) in HK2 cells (human kidney cell line). We selected this antibody because it was the least expensive antibody for this antigen from any of the companies that we trust (we don't trust all companies!). We aliquotted this antibody and stored it as 10uL aliquots in our -80 freezer. We actually made 48 aliquots from it, and we only expected 40, so Invitrogen was generous.

Experimental Design and Results Summary

Applications

Western Blot

Sample

HK2 cells

Primary Incubation

1:1000, overnight, 4 deg C, rocking

Blocking Agent

Odyssey Blocking Buffer

Secondary Incubation

1:20,000, 1 hr, room temp

Tertiary Incubation

None

Detection

LiCor Odyssey Scan

Results Summary

Secondary antibody was 925-68073 from LiCor, donkey anti-Rabbit 680 nm.The blot was clean except for some faint non-specific bands just above the GPX band. But the GPX band was so strong that the faint bands did not matter much.

Summary

The Good

It worked great, the price was fine, there was more in the vial than expected.

The Bad

Some faint bands at too-high molecular weight may or may not be specific

The Bottom Line

I recommend this antibody for Western blotting.
