We are constantly growing cell lines in our lab for animal implantation. While we used smaller water baths in the past to heat our media, we decided to move to a larger system. After talking with VWR, we decided to purchase the 28 L water bath from VWR with the dimensions of 57.2L x 43.2W x 45.7H cm (22.5 x 17 x 18"). We purchased this system because of its large size and great price.

Protocol Overview

We place the media into the water bath and heat for ~30 min at 37 degrees Celsius. The system is easy to use as there are minimal buttons. The temperature is adjustable.

Tips

Remember to change your water once a week as this will prevent possible cell culture contaminations.

Results Summary

We have never had any problems with this water bath. We keep it on at all times since we have a big lab that has people in it most of the day and night. We change the water at least every two weeks and normally add a little bleach to the water to prevent possible contamination.

The system is temperature adjustable and has a knob on the back that can be unscrewed to change the water.

The Good

Great price, consistent temperature, great customer service.

The Bad

The lid is slightly heavy to lift, but everything else about the water bath is excellent.

The Bottom Line

I highly recommend this water bath for labs that dealing in cell cultures. We bought the largest one and found this is the perfect size for ~6 bottles of media (500 mL) and ~2 trypsin (100 mL) at a given time. If needed, they offer smaller sizes.
