This ultra low freezer is used to store biological samples and to bring cells down slowly to -80C before storage in liquid nitrogen. This mini-unit was selected because it's the right scale for my laboratory.

After placing the unit on a level surface and away from the walls it's plugged in and turned on. It will hold quite a few boxes loose or in racks (not included).
A lock can be placed on the door latch to control access
The freezer goes down and holds at -80C. The door opens and closes smoothly and I haven't noticed vacuum lock up. It's very convenient to have this in the lab. Because this unit does sit in the lab and not in an equipment room somewhere else, the noise is noticeable. The company claims less than 50 dBA but when the compressor kicks in I'd say it's at least 70 dBA. The company was responsive in fixing an issue.
