Protocol Overview

Using mini spin column isolation kits you simply place the isolation column on the vacuum port and apply vacuum to the apparatus. This allows for rapid washing of columns and reduces total time for RNA isolation.

Tips

The cap that covers the drain port does not thread well..be careful that is has been put on straight. Spin once at the end of the protocol to remove residual liquid on the sides of the column.

Results Summary

I save at least 10 minutes when preparing 24 samples when using the vacuum compared to the spin method.

Summary

The Good

Saves time and isn't too expensive. Very durable.

The Bad

Vacuum doesn't remove all of the liquid stuck to the sidewall of the tubes like spinning would...this could cause problems for people with sensitive downsteam applications.

The Bottom Line

Well worth the cost for the time savings.
