Drabkin’s reagent
D5941
Hemoglobin level in blood samples can be identified by Drabkin’s reagent.
Estimation of hemoglobin in blood
Rat venous blood collected in EDTA coated vaccutainers
Drabkin’s solution was prepared according to the manufacturer’s instructions. To 5ml of Drabkin’s solution add 20 µl of blood and mixed well and was allowed to stand for 15 minutes at room temperature. Absorbance was taken at 540 nm against blank (Drabkin’s solution). The hemoglobin level was estimated from the absorbance of cyanmethemoglobin standard solution containing known concentration of hemoglobin
Drabkin’s reagent should be stored in dark and protected from light
The results obtained exhibited repeatability
None
Easy to perform, small sample (blood) volume is required
Other reagents required in the experimental procedure have to be purchased separately
Rapid estimation of hemoglobin
