Company:

Hamilton

Product Name:

Hamilton SoftTouch 8-channel electronic pipette

Catalog Number:

HSE-100

We use microplate-format assays for a number of procedures including routine protein quantification. A multichannel pipette helps and the ability of electronic models to dispense can be useful.

Protocol Overview

The pipettor is easy to use. You can adjust the up and down speeds separately through 5 settings. It can carry out dispensing, reverse pipetting, and some other functions.

Tips

Keep the tips clear of the liquid during blowout because it aspirates slightly on reset.

Results Summary

No problems pipetting but it's not as refined as more expensive competitors. The construction feels cheaper. The body has hard right angles that don't fit the hand as well. The motor is noisier. The on/off button feels chintzy. The pipette button is not as ergonomic in location or actuation as others I've used. The lever ejector is simple and efficient.

The Bottom Line

Although not as polished as some competitor pipettes, the Hamilton is more reasonably priced and works fine.
