This is a good, easy to use kit for silver staining protein samples. I have used this kit to detect femtomol concentrations of proteins and then successfully sent them off for mass spec. analysis.

Load and run protein samples on polyacrylamide gels (I use premade ones) and then follow the kits instructions for visualization. After visualization you can cut out the bands and send for mass spec.
Take precautions to not contaminate with keratin
The kit works very well to visualize protein samples and with clean backgrounds. Samples can also be use in mass spec. downstream after destaining.
