We genotype a lot of mice and this works well with agarose gels. Bands are easily detectable and it's easy to increase or decrease the density of the gel depending on the size of the bands you're trying to identify.

Protocol Overview

Dilute stock GelRed and mix with appropriate amount of agarose. Boil solution and pour into gel mold. Run gel at 120 V until samples have run to bottom of gel.

Tips

Swirl agarose solution every 15 to 20 seconds to prevent boiling over
