Company:

Thermo Scientific

Product Name:

RevertAid First Strand cDNA Synthesis Kit

Catalog Number:

K1621

Used this kit to convert to cDNA from primary neurons, cell lines, and DNA from tissues with the ultimate goal of running qPCR on the samples. The kit works very well and is relatively quick. The instructions are easy to follow and there aren't a lot of steps.

Experimental Design and Results Summary

Application

cDNA conversion for qPCR

Starting Material

Cell lines, primary neurons, tissue

Protocol Overview

Nanodrop your starting RNA and add desired amount to tube with the provided primers. Denature secondary structures for 5 minutes before adding master mix containing the other kit components. Incubate for 60 minutes and terminate reaction for 5. Use cDNA immediately or store cDNA at -20 or -80

Tips

Denaturing secondary structures only takes an extra 5 minutes so it's worth doing

Results Summary

Summary

The Good

Easy and a cheap option. Can now buy 100 sample kits

The Bad

Yield is only 20 ul so may need to run samples several times if you need a lot

The Bottom Line

We switched to this kit because it was much cheaper than other companies' but we keep using it because it's also easier to use and the results are of equal quality
