Our lab's longstanding goal is to unravel new protein biomarkers in cancer and elucidate their functional role in tumorigenesis with a focus on identifying the role of galectins in cancer. Galectin-4 is a tandem galectin that shows high affinity to lipid rafts and has been implicated as a tumor suppressor protein in colorectal cancer. A decrease in its expression is an indicator of tumorigenesis. Here we test different colon cancer cell lines for the expression of galectin-4 and purified galectin-4 was run as a positive control to detect the band size in the first lane. As it can be seen from the figure that this antibody is very specific in detecting galectin-4 expression on a western blot and has no background when followed suggested protocol by R&D.

Western blotting
Very clean antibody, as seen there is no background. Purified galectin-4 was run on the gel and was probed using the antibody. Last lane is the marker lane that shows the presence of galectin-4 band at 36kDa.
