The goal of our research is to determine the impact of bacterial metabolism on pathogenesis. We used RNeasy Mini Kits for isolating bacterial RNA to determine the expression of genes involved in amino acid metabolism.

This kit was used to isolate RNA from Staphylococcus aureus cells. The protocol is very simple and take less than one hour. It's a simple wash and spin protocol. I have found better yields when the lysed cells in RLT buffer are left in 100% ethanol overnight rather than finishing the protocol in one day.
