The Light One Illuminator is a compact, bench top pipetting aid for enhanced visualization of 96-well blocks. It requires no computer interface, has a small "foot print" on the bench and is easy to use. It reduces manual pipetting errors by illuminating the wells in which the analyst is pipetting into resulting in less analytical errors. It also has selective illumination for light-sensitive compounds. I use it in the lab for mass spectrometry sample analysis. Once the 96-well block is filled with standards, unknown, and blank samples the block can be placed directly into the mass spectrometer for analysis.

Experimental Design and Results Summary

Application

Analytical analysis of multiple matrices by mass spectrometry

Starting Material

Plasma, urine, or tissue homogenate quantitation

Protocol Overview

First, extract the samples by pipetting them into the 96-well block using the Light One illuminator. Second, add the extraction solvent. Third, cover the block and vortex. Fourth, centrifuge the block. Fifth, remove the supernatent and transfer to a clean 96-well block. Sixth, analyze by LC-MS (liquid chromatography-Mass spectrometry) or another instrument as required.

Tips

Use the Light one illuminator in single sample mode or row mode

Results Summary

The Light One Illuminator eliminates pipetting errors by illuminating the areas in which you want to pipet samples. 96-well blocks have sample inserts that are very close together and it is difficult to see where the sample will be pipetted without this equipment.

Features Summary

If the sample is light sensitive it has special illumination.

Additional Notes

Sample progression can be forwarded by a button on the unit or a foot pedal for progression can also be purchased.

The Good

Reliable and great product.

The Bad

None

The Bottom Line

Many analytical methods have been automated using 96-well block technology. The problem is the wells are very close together and it is easy to pipet the sample into the same well twice - then the analysis is off by one sample throughout the sample run costing time and wasting solvents. The light one illuminator eliminates analyst error. I have been using it for all my analytics for over 5 years. I am very pleased with the performance of this product.
