The E. coli O103 Latex Test Kit was used as part of an E. coli screening protocol to determine the presence of the top seven shiga toxin producing E. coli (STEC). The kit was chosen as it is produced by a reputable company and advertises quick detection of serotypes. The anti-serum functioned well, however additional colonies would needs to be tested on occasion as a result of inconclusive results.

Protocol Overview

Add a drop of the anti-serum to a test card and smear a colony into the drop, mixing gently up to 60 seconds or until agglutination is observed. Ensure controls work properly.

Tips

Check a few colonies from each sample if no agglutination or weak agglutination is seen.

Results Summary

Almost all samples were easily tested with agglutination occurring in less than 20 seconds. A few samples required multiple colonies to be selected due to weak agglutination results.

Supplied with positive and negative control, PBS, control reagent, Latex beads, test cards, mixing sticks, and transfer pipettes.
