We use this product for a variety of imaging purposes but mainly for Western Blot imaging and analysis. It is very easy to use once optimized. Since Bio-Rad has stain free technology, the western blotting procedure needs to be optimized for use with their stain free gels, however it cuts down on a majority of the time and effort downstream. There is no need to strip and reprobe for housekeeping proteins since the imager is capable of normalizing to total lane protein and perform a variety of analyses. The software (image lab) is great, user friendly, license free, and works on Macs and PCs! Overall this is a great system once you optimize it for your needs. The sales reps are fantastic as well as tech support during the initial set up of the instrument.

Standard western blotting protocol, except the gel needs to be activated by the system prior to transfer.
Keep the system off when not in use so the camera doesn't get too hot
You get really nice clear images of westerns and regular gels with this imaging system.
