Removal of red blood cells (RBCs) from samples is a necessary step prior to flow cytometric analysis, in vitro functional assays, and hybridoma protocols. Applications of red blood cell lysis buffers include immunophenotyping, cell culture, and cell sorting. The reagents are particularly recommended for work with proteins, leukocyte DNA, and RNA, since abundant proteins (including albumin) and RNAs in the sample may interfere with downstream applications and will complicate the analysis of your results.
RBC buffers are available for the lysis of human, mouse, canine, rat, and primate samples, in separate components or in kit format. Rapid, efficient, and complete lysis is the goal; for optimal results, look for a product that will lyse erythrocytes with a minimum effect on leukocytes.
