News and New Technologies from the Buyer's Guide for Life Scientists

The TopoGEN DNA unwinding kit is ideal for demonstrating that a drug or compound is a DNA intercalator. The method is simple and yields unambiguous results since positive intercalator controls are included in the kit. The kit requires a small amount of topoisomerase I, also available from TopoGEN. Many new anticancer agents damage DNA and are intercalators; therefore, as part of a new drug characterization, it is important to examine genotocity through this mechanism. Receive a 20% Discount on Hematology Reagents for the Study of Plasmin Activation
For a limited time, Cell Sciences is offering a 20% discount on selected products useful in the investigation of plasmin activation. These include PAI-1, tPA, uPA, uPAR, Vitronectin and related proteins and ELISA kits. Plasminogen Activator Inhibitor 1 (PAI-1) plays a key role in fibrinolysis through its regulation of Tissue-type (tPA) and Urokinase-type Plasminogen Activators (uPA). Plasminogen is the inactive zymogen of plasmin, the protease responsible for degrading fibrin. The intricacies of the PAI-1-Plasminogen Activator-Plasmin system and its regulation are being investigated in renal and cardiovascular disease, in addition to inflammation, angiogenesis, and cancer.More Information

Watch Video: Thermo Scientific NanoDrop™ 2000|2000c UV-Vis Spectrophotometer
1 µL - 2 µL sample. No dilutions. No cuvettes. Less than 5-second measurement.

The NanoDrop™ 2000c Spectrophotometer uses an innovative sample retention system to hold microvolume (1µL -2 µL) samples between two measurement surfaces using the surface tension properties of liquids - no cuvettes needed.

This system allows for path lengths as small a 50 microns so that even very high concentrations of protein can be measured without dilutions. No dilutions mean preparations for sample quantification are easy and cleanup is fast - simply wipe the measurement surfaces with a laboratory wipe.

This video article demonstrates two methods for quantification of microvolume amounts of protein using A280 absorbance readings and the BCA colorimetric assay..
