ROCKFORD, Ill. (October 26, 2009) — Thermo Fisher Scientific, the world leader in serving science, today introduced the Thermo Scientific Pierce Co-Immunoprecipitation (Co-IP) Kit for the isolation of native protein complexes from a lysate or complex mixture using purified antibodies immobilized onto an agarose support. The kit uses an amine-reactive resin for the direct coupling of 10-50 micrograms of antibody. Traditional co-IP methods rely on Protein A or G and result in co-elution of the antibody heavy and light chains that may migrate with relevant bands, masking important results. The resin chemistry also enables immobilization that is independent of antibody isotype or species.

The Pierce® Co-IP Kit includes optimized buffers for protein binding and recovery, reagents to perform control experiments and efficient spin columns and collection tubes that shorten the protocol and minimize handling. The optimized elution buffer provides a milder recovery of native protein complexes than the traditional boiling in SDS-PAGE, reducing sample buffer and making the isolated proteins more compatible with downstream applications. The protocol requires less sample and antibody.

The new Pierce Co-IP Kit supplies sufficient reagents to perform 50 co-IP reactions using 25 microliters of antibody support. The reagents can be stored at 4°C for up to one year.
