A New Report From Biocompare, Inc. Investigates the Life Science Laboratory Software Market

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., March 7 /PRNewswire/ -- A new report from Biocompare, Inc., based on a survey that was administered to over 1000 life science researchers, reveals that Statistical Analysis Software and Image Analysis Software are the types of software researchers are most likely to buy.

When asked about their current software usage, over 53% of researchers report using some type of Image Analysis Software. This is evidence of how the capability to visualize, record, and analyze images from gels, blots and other sources has become a fundamental tool in the research laboratory. While Image Analysis Software was the most commonly used software, an almost equally high number of researchers (46%) report using some type of statistical analysis software.

Results also showed 75% of scientists surveyed chose "Ease of use/Minimal training time" as one of their most desired features when selecting laboratory software. This illustrates that researchers place high priority on having software which can be up and running quickly with little or no downtime.

"We expected scientists to be more concerned with the functionality of the software," commented Mari Sciabica Capps, Director of Surveys and Reports for Biocompare, "However, it is clear that any supplier which can offer an easy to use software package that requires minimal training time will be able to capture the attention of life scientists."

Additionally, the report indicates that interest in Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) software continues to grow. The survey revealed that researchers planning to purchase such software require it to have multiple features such as sample tracking, multiple simultaneous users, secure access, and compatibility with instrumentation from all vendors.

The report, Laboratory Software: Managing Discovery Data, available from Biocompare, Inc., explores the current trends in laboratory software including applications and features utilized and desired by life science researchers.
