Entellus Medical Launches XprESS LoProfile Multi-Sinus Dilation Tool With Light Fiber

MINNEAPOLIS--()--Entellus Medical, a leading manufacturer of innovative tools for treating patients with chronic and recurrent sinusitis, launched its XprESS LoProfile Multi-Sinus Dilation Tool. The reduced profile is designed to more easily navigate tight sinus spaces and facilitate quick and easy dilation of multiple sinus drainage paths, allowing physicians to potentially treat more patients with in-office procedures or reduced OR time.

The XprESS LoProfile’s design differentiates it from other balloon sinus dilation tools in the market. XprESS LoProfile’s small atraumatic ball tip allows for gentle palpation of tight sinus passages and is also quickly shapeable for treatment of the frontal, sphenoid and maxillary sinuses. XprESS LoProfile with Light Fiber combines balloon sinus dilation, seeker, tip location confirmation, suction, and irrigation functions into a single less invasive tool designed for effective clinical outcomes in sinus dilation procedures.

“The reduced size of the XprESS LoProfile device makes it ideal for reliably accessing and treating the frontal and maxillary sinuses in a doctor’s office. The doctor can quickly customize the device shape to fit a patient’s anatomy, allowing the device to quickly open narrowed sinus drainage paths,” said Brian Farley, CEO of Entellus Medical. “Physicians with all levels of experience have used the XprESS LoProfile device to effectively treat sinusitis patients in well-tolerated office procedures and in conjunction with traditional endoscopic sinus surgery.”

Surgical treatment of chronic sinusitis routinely involves cutting and removal of sinus mucosal tissue near the opening of a sinus. Use of sinus balloon technology and no cutting instruments preserves the natural sinus anatomy and enables effective treatment of sinusitis patients in the comfort and convenience of a physician’s office. In-office balloon sinus dilation is an effective alternative treatment to endoscopic sinus surgery and provides patients lasting relief at a lower cost than traditional sinus surgery.

    See Neurons Clearly with CLARITY

Researchers have devised strategies to make brains optically transparent, thereby obviating the need for thin tissue sectioning. One, published in 2013 by Karl Deisseroth’s lab at Stanford University, is called CLARITY. Here's what you need to know to use it.

    Cell Lines for Ion-Channel Screening

Testing drugs on ion channels is complicated by multiple factors, including the fact that neurons contain numerous channels capable of responding to multiple signals. One way scientists approach this problem is by expressing individual ion channels in cultured, non-neuronal cell lines. Though far from physiological, this approach is convenient for pharmacological testing because the cells generally are easier to culture than neurons and yet can be studied using both electrophysiology and fluorescence-imaging approaches.
