Plate Seals

Plate seals are used in the sealing of PCR plates and other microplates during thermal cycling and storage for techniques like PCR, nucleic acid extraction, and high throughput sequencing. These consumable supplies curtail the evaporation of samples to ensure high efficiency and minimal sample loss. Plate seals can come in different varieties and sealing methods. Plate-sealing films are made of transparent plastic, allowing the user to visibly observe the sample. Plate-sealing foils on the other hand are made of thin, opaque aluminum that restricts light penetration. Both types may adhere to the plate via a sealing adhesive coated onto the seal, or by using a heat sealer device. Plate seals can withstand a temperature range between -20°C to 120° and are generally automation compatible. Plate lids and mats that seal mechanically are also available.
