  • Description: This CO2 monitor is designed for use in the research laboratory. It provides continuous accurate measurement of CO2 over the range of 0-10% CO2. The rapid response time and moderate sample flow requirements make this instrument suitable for use with any size animal, even the small rodents commonly used in laboratory research. With a simple kit, it can even be converted for use with animals with extremely small tidal volumes like mice. Halothane and Isoflurane do not affect the signal, making these instruments appropriate for use with any of the gas anesthesia instruments and/or any of the respirators in this catalog.
    Nitrous oxide (N2O) gas slightly interferes with detection of CO2 depending upon the concentration of N2O and CO2. An internal jumper set for the planned concentration of N2O completely compensates for the presence of N2O and restores CO2 measurements to full accuracy.
    The miniature infrared optical analyzer in the sample cell is exceptionally stable, requires little maintenance and provides a linear output voltage. The sample cell is heated to a controlled, regulated temperature to prevent moisture condensation from breath, and to control for any thermal effects on the sensor.
    The instrument can be set to display CO2 concentration in percent, or in mm Hg. The displayed value can be the maximum CO2 concentration reached at the end of each breath, or the continuous, rapid response, value of CO2 concentration. The sensor is in a remote cell, with a cable connection to the main unit. The remote cell is easily accessed for inspection, cleaning or replacement.
    The CO2 Monitor comes complete with sample cell, the 50082 Accessory Package containing two moisture traps with male-female Luer-Loc connectors, one 5' sample line with male connectors, and one 2' sample line with Nafion® tubing, which absorbs condensed moisture.     The End-Tidal Carbon Dioxide Analyzers provide quick and accurate end-tidal or continuous measurement of expired CO2 in mice or rats. Respiratory rate is computed using the excursions of the CO2 waveform and displayed on the LCD screen. The heart of the CapStar Series of Analyzers is a temperature controlled, miniature infrared CO2 sensor with digital output. A carrier gas system automatically maintains the ratio of carrier flow to sample flow, and results are obtained with low sample flow and rapid response. The heated measurement cell prevents water condensation. CO2 concentration may be displayed in percent or mmHg. An alarm sounds when end-tidal values fall out of adjustable range. All adjustments are performed digitally using a single knob.

  • Description: The Metabolic Monitor measures breath by breath oxygen and carbon dioxide concentration to accurately assess respiratory status in either spontaneously breathing or artificially ventilated animals. It uses infrared (CO2) and paramagnetic (O2) measurement cells for unsurpassed accuracy and long-term stability. Inspiration and expiration excursion of the CO2 signal is measured and displayed on a front panel backlit LCD display. Indicator lights and an audible signal provide status indicators for proper operation, and adjustable CO2 and respiratory rate alarms are standard. Measurements can be displayed as continuous or peak end-tidal readings. Operation is simple: the small diameter sample tubing is connected to the animal’s endotracheal tube using the supplied fittings. All alarm settings are adjusted with a single knob. Gas and rate outputs are standardized for easy external recording. The only maintenance required is periodic inspection of the moisture filters. An RS232 port is included for data collection, and makes it easy to import data to a spreadsheet for calculation. There is also an open slot to attach a cardiotachometer, blood pressure amplifier or other signal acquisition apparatuses.
