Concentration Kits

Concentration kits are available to readily prepare protein and nucleic acid samples. Such kits may utilize centrifugal concentrators, typically disposable spin columns that require only benchtop centrifuges. By spinning, excess solution elutes out, reducing the final volume of the sample while retaining the particles of interest. Concentrators are useful in sample preparation procedures in protein purification, DNA and RNA purification, and viral purification. Key considerations for choosing centrifugal concentrators are the range of the molecular weight cutoff (MWCO), as these dictate the species that will remain. The pore size can also influence the rate of elution. Other aspects to consider include spin times, retentate recovery, dead stop volume, and chemical or buffer compatibilities.
