Gas Chromatography Systems

Gas chromatography systems (also known as GC systems, and gas chromatographs), use either packed or capillary columns to separate mixtures into individual components that can then be measured. GC in combination with mass spectrometry (MS) further enhances selectivity and compound identification. Improvements in today’s GC systems reflect the constant advances seen in the technique’s areas of application, including environmental testing, forensics, food safety, and biodiesel analysis.

Advances to gas chromatography systems include improved speed and accuracy in both routine and complex analyses, easier-to-use data acquisition and analysis software, and increased detection sensitivity. Micro GC for use in the field and 2-D GC are additional areas of interest. Choosing a customizable system gives flexibility regarding detector type (e.g., FID, thermal conductivity, ECD, or mass detector) and sample introduction method, letting you add components as future needs change, although for simpler analyses, an integrated system may be preferable.
