Cytokines and chemokines are small cell signaling protein molecules involved in cellular communication, immune response, inflammation and hematopoiesis. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA) kits allow for the detection of these molecules for research and clinical purposes. Kits are species specific and are available for human, rat, mouse, bovine, canine, reptile, bacteria, viral and other mammalian and non-mammalian formats. Multiplex and single use kits are available for cytokines such as interferon, the interleukin families, tumor necrosis factor and growth factors. If samples are scarce, an “all in one well” cellular assay may be beneficial. Important features to look for in cytokine ELISA kits are assay sensitivity, broad dynamic range and quality of the antibody pairs’ affinity and specificity.
