RNA extraction is the first step in many experiments. The success of those experiments and the integrity of their results are largely dependent upon the quality of the RNA. In addition to maintaining an RNase-free environment, one of the greatest challenges in successfully isolating RNA is finding the reagents and protocol that work with your source material. Extraction of RNA from a gel is different than extraction from tissue, and extraction from fresh tissue requires different handling than extraction from fixed tissue. Each situation presents its own set of challenges; challenges which can range from cell lysis to removal of impurities which may be unique to the source. Fortunately, manufacturers have developed products to help you with every type of extraction. Match your needs with the products listed below and rest assured that the RNA you extract will lead to trustworthy results.
