Total RNA

Total RNA All the intracellular RNA molecules are collectively known as Total RNA. Mainly consisting of ribosomal RNA (rRNA), transfer RNA (tRNA), and messenger RNA (mRNA), the total RNA content also includes other RNA species like miRNA, siRNA, snRNA, polyA RNA, polysomal RNA, lincRNA, piRNA, SRP RNA, tmRNA, snoRNA, SmY RNA, scaRNA, gRNA, aRNA, crRNA, tasiRNA, rasiRNA, and 7SK RNA. Total RNA is usually extracted from eukaryotic cell lines, normal and diseased tissues, biopsies, bacteria, and numerous microbes. Total RNA is subjected to vital, intense quality control. Its quality can be quantified using the RNA integrity number (RIN), which is recommended to be between 7 and 8. It is also treated before submission of the sample to be free of RNase, genomic DNA, polysaccharides, and proteoglycan. Total RNA samples are typically stored in RNase-free molecular biology grade water and frozen at -80°C. Total RNA is used extensively in cDNA synthesis, cDNA library construction, RT-PCR, RNA-seq, and Northern blotting. Refer to the RNA suppliers for source details such as species, cell and tissue type, and clinical diagnosis.
