Mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) purification kits are designed to isolate necessary starting material for investigations that involve the mitochondrial genome. Compared to the nuclear genome, the mitochondrial genome accumulates mutations at a higher rate. Detrimental effects from endogenous or environmental agents over a short time can thus be reflected in the mtDNA. These ready-to-use kits may prove useful in the rapid enrichment of mtDNA for use applications in PCR, sequencing, and others.
