Dojindo has recently introduced three new PEG-containing SAMs (self-assembled monolayers) for surface modification: Carboxy-EG6-undecanethiol, Hydroxy-EGn-undecanethiol, and Amino-EG6-undecanethiol. Polyethyleneglycols (PEGs) are widely used for material modifications to improve hydrophilicity of a surface and are usually stable under physiological conditions. All three reagents also contain an SH group at the end enabling their use in preparation of a highly oriented and hydrophilic self-assembled monolayer on a gold surface suitable for biomaterial-labelings. The hydrophilic surface can prevent proteins or other biomaterials from non-specific binding. Therefore, monolayers prepared by these reagents will provide a better surface to develop biomaterial sensors or DNA/ protein microarrays.
