Photoswitchable fluorescent proteins bring new dimension to the in vivo analysis of cellular events. The fluorescence characteristics of these proteins can be changed by irradiation with light of a specific wavelength, intensity and duration. This provides unique possibilities for the optical labeling and tracking of living cells, organelles and proteins in a spatio-temporal manner. Evrogen presents two monomeric photoswitchable fluorescent proteins: PS-CFP2, capable of irreversible photoconversion from a cyan to a green fluorescent form in response to 405 nm light irradiation, and Dendra2, which undergoes photoconversion from a green to a red fluorescent form in response both to 405 nm and low phototoxic 488 nm light. Both proteins show high contrast photoconversion (2000 - 4000-fold) and fast maturation rate.
