Genotyping can be accomplished using a number of different tools, including PCR, sequencing or hybridization to microarrays or beads. Which tool you choose will depend largely on whether you need to determine the sequence of longer stretches of DNA or are focused on particular loci (such as SNPs). When deciding which approach (and thus, which instrument) you want to utilize for genotyping, you'll also want to consider your throughput (i.e. how many samples per experiment), the volume and amount of each sample and what other types of information you would like to obtain from those same samples (e.g. relative gene expression, methylation status). Whatever your needs, there is a genotyping system out there that can fill them.
