Description

Product Characteristics:
The protein encoded by this gene is a membrane protein that can form a non-selective channel permeable to calcium and other cations. The encoded protein appears to be induced to form channels by a receptor tyrosine kinase-activated phosphatidylinositol second messenger system and also by depletion of intracellular calcium stores. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Oct 2011].

Subcellular location: Cell membrane

Synonyms: TRPC1_HUMAN, Short transient receptor potential channel 1, TrpC1, Transient receptor protein 1, TRP-1, TRP 1, TRP 1 protein, TRP1, TRP1 protein,. HTRP 1, HTRP1, MGC133334, MGC133335, Mtrp1, Transient receptor potential cation channel subfamily C member 1, Transient receptor potential channel 1, Trp related protein 1, TRPC1, Trpc1 transient receptor potential cation channel subfamily C member 1.

Target Information: This gene encodes a melanosomal enzyme that belongs to the tyrosinase family and plays an important role in the melanin biosynthetic pathway. Defects in this gene are the cause of rufous oculocutaneous albinism and oculocutaneous albinism type III. [provided by RefSeq, Mar 2009]
