Description

Product Characteristics: L3MBTL(Lethal(3)malignant brain tumor-like protein ) is polycomb group (PcG) protein. PcG proteins maintain the transcriptionally repressive state of genes, probably via a modification of chromatin, rendering it heritably changed in its expressibility. L3MBTL participates in the ETV6-mediated repression. L3MBTL probably plays a role in cell proliferation. Overexpression induces multinucleated cells, suggesting that it is required to accomplish normal mitosis. L3MBTL interacts with ETV6 and is widely expressed. Expression is reduced in colorectal cancer cell line SW480 and promyelocytic leukemia cell line HL-60. In interphase cells, it is scattered throughout the nucleoplasm. In mitotic cells, it strongly associates with condensed chromosomes from the prophase to telophase.
Synonyms: KIAA0681, L3MBT, L3MBTL1
Target Information: This gene represents a polycomb group gene. The encoded protein functions to regulate gene activity, likely via chromatin modification. The encoded protein may also be necessary for mitosis. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.[provided by RefSeq, Sep 2010]
