Description

Product Characteristics:
SNARE that may be involved in targeting and fusion of Golgi-derived retrograde transport vesicles with the ER. Required for maintenance of ER network. Implicated in the suppression of cell death.Tissue specificity: Isoform 1 is highly expressed in heart, brain, liver skeletal muscle and pancreas. Isoform 3 is moderately expressed in placenta, lung and kidney. Isoform 4 is highly expressed in testis and small intestine.

Subcellular location: Cytoplasm

Synonyms: NIP1, BCL2 adenovirus E1B 19kD interacting protein 1, BCL2/adenovirus E1B 19 kDa protein-interacting protein 1, BNIP1, sec20, SEC20_HUMAN, SEC20L, Transformation-related gene 8 protein, TRG-8, TRG8, Vesicle transport protein SEC20.

Target Information: This gene is a member of the BCL2/adenovirus E1B 19 kd-interacting protein (BNIP) family. It interacts with the E1B 19 kDa protein, which protects cells from virally-induced cell death. The encoded protein also interacts with E1B 19 kDa-like sequences of BCL2, another apoptotic protector. In addition, this protein is involved in vesicle transport into the endoplasmic reticulum. Alternative splicing of this gene results in four protein products with identical N- and C-termini.
