Description

Product Characteristics: Function: Is a key regulator of neurite extension through regulation of microtubule instabilily. Subcellular location: Cytoplasm. Cytoplasm âÄ° perinuclear region. Cell projection âÄ° growth cone. Cell projection âÄ° axon. Membrane, Peripheral membrane protein, Cytoplasmic side Potential. Note: Associated with punctate structures in the perinuclear cytoplasm, axons, and growth cones of developing neurons. SCG10 exists in both soluble and membrane-bound forms. Tissue specificity: Present in growth cones and abundant in developing neurons.,Neurogenesis,Stathmin-2, Superior cervical ganglion-10 protein, Protein SCG10
Target Information: This gene encodes a member of the stathmin family of phosphoproteins. Stathmin proteins function in microtubule dynamics and signal transduction. The encoded protein plays a regulatory role in neuronal growth and is also thought to be involved in osteogenesis. Reductions in the expression of this gene have been associated with Down's syndrome and Alzheimer's disease. Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been observed for this gene. A pseudogene of this gene is located on the long arm of chromosome 6. [provided by RefSeq, Nov 2010]
