BrightStar™ BioDetect™ Kit from Ambion

Description

The Ambion® BrightStar® BioDetect™ Kit is a low-background, high-sensitivity, nonisotopic detection system compatible with northern, Southern, dot blot, and nuclease protection assays. Includes sufficient reagents for the processing of 1000 cm2 membrane.

• Extremely low background due to optimized membrane, micro-filtered wash and blocking solutions

• Multiple exposures possible over a two-day period, with 10-minute exposures often comparable to overnight exposures using 32P

• Eliminates the costs associated with the use and disposal of radioisotopes

• Components are ready to use

The BrightStar® BioDetect™ Kit contains all of the reagents and materials necessary for detection of biotinylated RNA and DNA probes and has been optimized for use with BrightStar®-Plus Membranes (see Accessory Products). When used together, these components yield results with exceptionally high sensitivity and low background. BrightStar® BioDetect™ also offers the advantage of one of the brightest and longest-lived chemiluminescent substrates, CDP-Star®, providing maximum sensitivity and the option of multiple exposures over a two-day timeframe.

Accessory Products:

For the highest sensitivity possible, use in conjunction with BrightStar® -Plus Positively Charged Nylon Membranes (SKU# AM10100, AM10102, or AM10104). The BrightStar® Psoralen-Biotin Kit (SKU# AM1480) is also available for the nonisotopic labeling of nucleic acids. Probes generated by this method have the maximum amount of biotin incorporated that will not interfere with blot hybridization, yielding maximum sensitivity.

  • Northern Analysis: The Basics

Northern analysis remains a standard method for detection and quantitation of mRNA levels despite the advent of powerful techniques, such as RT-PCR, gene array analysis and nuclease protection assays. Northern analysis provides a direct relative comparison of message abundance between samples on a single membrane. It is the preferred method for determining transcript size and for detecting alternatively spliced transcripts. Read More

  • Practical Tips For Nonisotopic Detection Levels

Ambion's BrightStar™ BioDetect™ Kit has been optimized to reduce the variables which have contributed to high background seen in nonisotopic detection systems of the past. We routinely use this system for both Northerns and nuclease protection assays to achieve sensitivities comparable to a 1 -2 day exposure using 32P-labeled probes. Read More
